Cursillo is an ongoing worldwide spiritual renewal movement intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to respond in a way of being "a servant of all."
The Cursillo experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, daily Holy Communion . The "Cursillo community," made up of those who have attended a Cursillo short course, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, by preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving. The Cursillo Short Course typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening.
What is Cursillo?
Eastern Oklahoma Presbyterian Cursillo is designed for members of the Presbyterian Church who seek growth in their faith and greater commitment to their Christian community. The goal of Cursillo is to guide participants into an ever closer and more personal relationship with Christ, to heighten their joy, deepen their faith, invigorate their life in Christ so they can make a difference in the environment in which they live. The word cursillo means "short course." This retreat is a "short course" toward experiencing a vibrant Christian life.
What Can I Expect?
The weekend is centered around talks on different aspects of the Christian life. The weekend is filled with worship, singing and other fun activities. The experience is enjoyable, thought-provoking, welcoming, and relational.
A highlight of the weekend is a series of talks centered around these themes:
Liberation - —understanding obstacles that keep us from a full life in Christ
Christ - —encountering Jesus, our living Lord, anew
Christian Life - —inspiring and equipping us to follow Christ and make a difference in our world
Perseverance— - deepening our determination and commitments
You will have an opportunity to listen and learn, to relax free from the distractions of the world, and to reflect on your own faith and relationship with God. You will not be expected to answer questions, give any speeches or be made to feel uncomfortable.

"In February, my wife and I treated ourselves to the gift of Cursillo. Several of our friends had taken it and recommended it, and that was enough for us. We headed to the weekend with few questions and no concerns about the upcoming three-day journey.
"Occasionally, God’s greatest blessings come completely out of the blue, and this was one such occasion for me. Having taught Sunday School for ten years, I’ve had many opportunities to research, meditate upon, and speak about God’s love..., but, in truth, I had never FELT this love in any but the briefest snippets until my Cursillo weekend.
"The retreat started on a high note on Thursday night and then just kept getting better. Three or four times during the 72-hour process, I said 'They can’t top this experience' to those around me, only to be proven wrong by an even deeper and more moving encounter with Jesus Christ within hours of the statement.
"By Sunday evening, I experientially KNEW the love that God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit have for me…personally. I KNEW that I had been called by name by God into a fellowship with Him that is eternal, unbreakable, and unfathomable—that I am a beloved child of the King.
"There ...is nothing secretive about the process; yet, it can no more be described without the actual experience than can climbing Mt. Everest, watching your own child being born, or seeing a sunset that makes you spontaneously praise God. Some things just must be experienced to be understood, and the Cursillo retreat is one of those things.
"A Cursillo retreat is not for everybody. Those wanting their lives to stay exactly the same as they are right now will be disappointed by Cursillo, which will change every aspect of their daily experience, from how they perceive God, to the enjoyment they get from music, to the vibrancy they experience from the greens of Spring.
"But, if you are somebody who wants to experience a powerful encounter with the living Jesus Christ in your personal life, then treat yourself to a Cursillo weekend. After all, if a revitalized and deeper walk with Jesus is a good thing, isn’t sooner better than later?"
Mark 6:31 – He said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.

"Cursillo is the best thing I have done in my life. My Cursillo transformed how I view life, my relationship with God and His plan for me. It brought to me, in the most personal way, a true sense of belonging to the family of God that I had been, at best, only faintly aware of previously.
"The experience changed my idea of church and what I thought of as worship in a positive and meaningful way.
"Cursillo taught me how to draw closer to Jesus. It gave me the knowledge...necessary to carry the Great Commission forth in my life. The...thing that stands out above all others from the weekend is the real power of prayer, made tangible to me by someone dear and by a...feeling of being uplifted during the Cursillo.
"During the weekend, I felt bathed in the Holy Spirit, felt God's special love for me and came to know Jesus as a friend. I made many new friends and have memories I will treasure forever.
"My fervent prayer is that all those who can will make a Cursillo; so that our community will be stronger, our sense of purpose as His disciples renewed and invigorated, and our love for all of God's creation will be as He desires."
